The Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity (LISEP) was created in 2019 as a program of The Ludwig Family Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization founded by Gene Ludwig and his wife, Dr. Carol Ludwig.

The mission of LISEP is to improve the economic well-being of middle- and lower-income Americans through research and education. LISEP strives to use economic research to better understand economic growth and prosperity as they are actually experienced by individuals from all walks of life. LISEP also seeks to advance the dialogue around policy solutions that can improve the economic well-being of all Americans. LISEP endeavors to conduct its activities in a nonpartisan fashion.

LISEPs first economic project is focused on creating a more meaningful unemployment rate to help direct policymakers’ attention where it is most urgently needed. The True Rate of Unemployment project can be found at lisep.org.
